Fragmented digital connectivity and security at sea

چکیده
This paper explores how uneven and often unreliable digital connections shape the patterns routines of life, work rest for seafarers, during long periods at sea. Such fragmented connections, which surface when ship moves in out connectivity or onboard data allowances run out, create a series uncertainties that might unsettle individual collective notions security. Ethnographic nature, study engaged 43 seafarers on board two container ships European waters, two-week voyages between February April 2018. provided an empirically grounded exploration digitally facilitated relations networks, enabled through increasingly connected ships, reshape seafarer lives. Findings from this demonstrate creative ways navigate negotiate to maintain relational ties with family friends. The concludes by setting future research directions practical implications speak security

Digital Reconstruction of Fragmented Artifacts
(EN) We describe an ongoing research project on efficient methods for identification and reconstruction of broken objects among large collections of irregular fragments. Applications include archaeology, art restoration, failure analysis, and other disciplines. Our solution for flat objects uses multi-scale matching and constrained dynamic programming. We are now extending it to curved pottery ...
متن کاملAchieving climate connectivity in a fragmented landscape.
The contiguous United States contains a disconnected patchwork of natural lands. This fragmentation by human activities limits species' ability to track suitable climates as they rapidly shift. However, most models that project species movement needs have not examined where fragmentation will limit those movements. Here, we quantify climate connectivity, the capacity of landscape configuration ...
متن کاملData Security Equals Graph Connectivity
To protect sensitive information in a cross tabulated table, it is a common practice to suppress some of the cells in the table. This paper investigates four levels of data security of a two-dimensional table concerning the effectiveness of this practice. These four levels of data security protect the information contained in, respectively, individual cells, individual rows and columns, several...
